Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. ~ Mark 14:38
Today as I was walking, I saw a lizard that did not run away as I approached. This caught my attention because the lizards usually hide with hast when I come near. Then I saw it. . . a small pile of crunched-up cheese curls on the sidewalk. The lizard was more concerned with the cheese curls than me. I had to film it. Thanks, iPhone.
Watching the lizard, reminded me of a squirrel eating part of a chicken wing that I videoed a while back. The squirrel seemed unbothered by me as I watched it eat from a few feet away. But as I came closer, he scurried off. Maybe he thought that I wanted him to share his chicken with me.
These encounters caused me to research what was typical for these critters to eat—processed cheese snacks and fried chicken—not a usual part of their diet. No kidding!
There are probably a gazillion ways to think about the behavior of the lizard and squirrel. But it caused me to reflect on how we behave in our environment. Spiritually speaking, I wondered if we act the same way when we engage in unnatural behavior. Do we take pleasure in things that we should not be eating, doing, or thinking about? Do we choose what is easiest without considering the consequences of our choice? Are we oblivious to what is near us?
And while the lizard eating the cheese curls and the squirrel eating the fried chicken may not be all that significant. I cannot help but think that there is a spiritual lesson to be learned from their actions.
God bless. . . I am Wiley’s granddaughter.
