Why do we want an authentic and dynamic relationship with God? I don’t know about you, but there are days, amid chaos and disappointment, I am thankful for intentional experiences with God. And I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13).
We must seek God for who He is rather than for what He can provide. Knowing that—we can only imagine the goodness that our Father in Heaven will bestow upon us (Matthew 7:11). We are blessed when we desire God’s presence and communion. He gives us exactly what we need (Matthew 6:33). When we delight ourselves in the LORD, He gives us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4). The astonishing thing here. . . is that. . . we come to desire that which God desires for us.
We no longer have an aversion to humility, surrender, and self-denial. We understand that through humility and the fear of the Lord, there are riches, honor, and life (Proverb 22:4). We realize that our success, wealth, health, and all our heart’s desires come from something greater than ourselves—the grace and favor of God. We know that we receive blessings not by seeking gifts but by seeking the Giver of gifts. According to James 1:17, all good and perfect gifts come from above.
We are no longer defeated by the challenges and distractions that can hinder our pursuit of God. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, and our Savior Jesus Christ, we confess the cares of life—our worldly desires, unhealthy busyness, and the allure of false gods to our Heavenly Father. We cultivate our life of prayer, praise, and worship to nurture our relationship with the Divine.
The pursuit of God leads to a life of devotion, obedience, and spiritual growth, resulting in a deeper understanding of God’s character, greater fulfillment, and purpose.
