And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13
I made this short video. It is a video about the seven types of biblical love. I hope that it brings you joy.
The Greek language has more than seven words for love; some Greek words for love are explicit in scripture, while others are implicit.
Agape is the highest form of love in the Bible. Agape means selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional love. It’s the love that God has for us and the love that we should show to others. It’s described in passages like 1 Corinthians 13 and John 3:16.
Philia refers to brotherly love or affectionate friendship. This affectionate love or friendship is often associated with companionship and loyalty.
Storge is familial love. It’s the love that exists between family members, such as the love between parents and children or among siblings.
Eros is romantic or erotic love. The type of love found in the Song of Solomon. It celebrates the beauty and passion of romantic love within marriage.
Ludus is flirty and playful love. It is a love that grows through joy, laughter, and shared activities.
Pragma is enduring love. Often seen in long-term marriages or committed relationships, it involves deep understanding, compromise, and shared goals.
Philautia is self-love. It is the love that involves self-acceptance, self-care, and nurturing a positive relationship with oneself.
By gaining insight into the various forms of love, we can better understand the intricate nature of human connections and God’s profound love for us. This understanding can improve our relationships and empower us to set clear and healthy boundaries when interacting with others.
God bless. . . I am Wiley’s granddaughter.
