Tuned to God’s Voice

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. ~ John 10:27

Many of us are familiar with the story of Abraham’s test in Genesis 22. I have often wondered, ‘What if Abraham had not been tuned to God’s voice?’ He surely would have missed the update to the original message about Isaac. And no doubt devastating consequences would have been the result.

The Bible tells us that God speaks to His children. He guides us and reveals His plans for our lives. He communicates with us, sometimes causing a change in our plans to better align with His divine purpose. There are numerous examples from the Bible of how we should respond when we hear God’s voice.

Young Samuel heard a voice calling his name in the night. At first, he didn’t realize that God was speaking to him. But with the help of Eli, he responded, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10). God sometimes calls us by name and waits for us to be alert and willing to listen.

Saul was traveling to Damascus to arrest followers of Jesus Christ when he had a powerful encounter with God. A bright light from heaven shined upon him. He heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:4). This encounter changed Saul’s life. He became Paul—the greatest apologist of his time—maybe the greatest apostle.

Moses had the burning bush (Exodus 3:1-10). While tending his father-in-law’s flock, Moses saw a burning bush. The burning bush was unharmed by the fire. God spoke to Moses from the burning bush. He instructed Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. God can use astonishing means to get our attention. He can use ordinary men and women for His extraordinary purpose.

Are you tuned in to listen to God’s voice?

What is God saying to you?

Are you willing to change based on what God is saying?

God has the power to change destinies. To live our best destiny—to realize our purpose in Jesus—we must listen to God’s voice for updates daily.

Next time you hear God’s voice, tune in and listen. Follow His instructions and let the Holy Spirit guide you. This way, you can be confident that you are on the path that God has set for you.
