Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice. ~ Psalm 112:5
As I was writing my Christmas list this year, curious, I wondered, “What would Jesus want for Christmas?”
While we can only infer what Jesus would want based on His teachings, here are some ideas:
- Love and Compassion (Mark 12:31):
- Volunteer at a local nursing home and spend time with older adults who may be lonely during the holidays.
- Visit and pray for someone sick at home or in the hospital.
- Handwrite a personalized, thoughtful letter to friends and family, expressing gratitude and love.
- Helping the Needy (Matthew 25:35-40):
- Prepare and distribute food packages to individuals in need in your community.
- Donate warm clothing and blankets to a local homeless shelter.
- Encourage someone who is struggling with grief, anxiety, or depression.
- Forgiveness and Reconciliation (Matthew 18:21-22):
- Contact someone you have argued with and initiate a conversation to mend the relationship.
- Gift someone a book on conflict resolution or forgiveness as a tool for personal and spiritual growth.
- Peace and Goodwill (Matthew 5:9):
- Organize or participate in a community event that brings diverse groups together to foster understanding and peace.
- Create or purchase peace-themed artwork or symbols (like a dove) to display in your home or community center.
- Spiritual Growth (Matthew 5:6):
- Join or start a study group focused on biblical principles.
- Gift a journal for spiritual reflections or a book on spiritual development.
- Gift a book on wealth and prosperity, or give an anonymous cash donation to someone in need.
- Stewardship of the Earth (Genesis 2:15):
- Participate in or organize a local clean-up day at a park or beach.
- Use or gift eco-friendly products, like reusable shopping bags or a tree planted in someone’s name.
- Spread the Message of Love and Hope (Matthew 28:19-20):
- Volunteer at a local charity or non-profit organization, especially those that focus on supporting individuals through tough times.
- Craft and distribute inspirational cards or messages at hospitals, schools, or shelters.
- Go to church and invite someone to attend church with you.
Jesus’ teachings often emphasized love, kindness, service to others, forgiveness, peace, and spiritual growth. Gifts that embody these values, whether they are physical items or acts of service, are the things that Jesus would want for Christmas.
Suppose each of us engaged in just one of the seven items above. What a fantastic way to give Jesus a gift this Christmas!
God bless… I am Wiley’s granddaughter.
